About this car
This 1974 Toyota Corona is a five-seat coupe whose original driveline has been completely replaced with a BMW M50-based turbo engine. A six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive make the car clearly built for driving and hobby use, not as an everyday car. The steering is on the left, which deviates from the Japanese model's original right-hand-drive tradition.
The car was stripped and rebuilt in 2024: it was painted in its current purple look and several fibreglass parts were made for it. At the same time, the engine had its bearings and oils changed, and in conjunction with the modified-vehicle inspection, the suspension's trailing arms, ball joints and urethane bushes were renewed.
The engine is built nearly to three litres from a BMW M50B25 base (on paperwork M50B20), the block bored to 86 mm and equipped with Cat Cams camshafts, Supertech valve springs and a BMW B28 crankshaft. A modern Maxxecu engine management, high-quality BC Racing suspension and adjustable trailing arms at the rear make the package as convincing to drive as it looks.
